U.S. Energy Supply Shifts to Nuclear Fuels

Posted by Paul Gladieux - Friday, April 07, 2006

GQM has considerable depth in the Nuclear Industry from design / construction, safety-related equipment and systems, nuclear operations, and waste management. As a part of this portfolio of expertise and our active membership in the American Nuclear Society, we’ve had the opportunity to continue our research on the “Nuclear Renaissance.” With our online service as an ANS member a couple times each week we receive “Current Nuclear Headlines.” The service includes headlines covering a number of topics such as nuclear medicine, research, food processing regulations to detect irradiation, fusion, and nuclear propulsion in space (NASA).

Here’s a few headliners from the past month that may enlighten you to the fast moving and inevitable shift to nuclear fuels:

  1. Spencer Abraham (former U.S. Energy Secretary) appointed Chairman of the Board of AREVA, Inc. (Areva, Press Release, Mar 1)
  2. Nations look at Sites for Nuclear Plants (Seattle Times, Mar 26)
  3. Local Governments Officially accept Nuclear Utility’s Plan (CBS 46, Mar 26)
  4. Utah firm Energy Solutions buys BNFL Nuclear Assets (UPI, Feb 3)
  5. U.S. hopes for “rebirth” of Nuclear Power, U.S. Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman (Reuters, Mar 16)

Though the U.S. commercial nuclear industry does not have a “perfect performance record” it does have the advantage of maturing to a level that needs to be recognized by the public. GQM will have other BLOG entries and Publications about the trends and future developments in the industry.
